Spot on article. So good! I’ve been wanting to write about Matrescence since I discovered it but I felt everyone already knew about it and I was the last to discover it but it seems not! It’s not as well known as I thought so I think I’ll write about it for my little corner of the internet. Thank you for this.💕

Absolutely! It’s a bit shocking how few people know about the word, honestly. I think I’ve only stumbled across 1 other person IRL that knows the term. 😬

So, thanks for sharing my post, and I’d also love to read and share your story! The world needs so many more people talking about matrescence.

Thank you for shining a light on this critical topic! As a doula, I’m constantly talking to parents about matrescence, and each time it blows my mind how little we know and are prepared for all the expanding and contracting that takes place in new parenthood, particularly for the birthing parent. Jessie Harrold - who has a fabulous podcast called Becoming - shares that it takes at least the first three years of motherhood to begin to feel your feet under you again. The first time I heard her say this, I was in the thick of it and it was so validating and reassuring. No one talks about this. There’s this myth that we’re supposed to bounce back within a few months of becoming a mother, when in fact, this process takes years. Maybe a lifetime? Your words are so important to raising awareness and speaking truth to a life-altering milestone in many people’s lives.

Right?! It's such an important concept; I'm SO grateful I stumbled across it nearly two years ago. I think my journey would've been much rockier without the realizations afforded by this type of language. I'm grateful for others (like you!) who are working in this space to help normalize the hard bits of motherhood.
